Pricing & overages
This page covers what you pay Tobren for your subscription. It’s completely separate from the money your customers pay you — Tobren takes no cut of your client sales (see Payment setup).
Plan tiers
| Plan | Included storage | Included egress | Team members | Monthly | Annual (15% off) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 3 GB | 5 GB | 1 (admin only) | $0 | — |
| Starter | 150 GB | 60 GB | 1 (admin only) | $19/mo | $16/mo |
| Professional | 500 GB | 150 GB | 5 | $49/mo | $42/mo |
| Studio | 1,500 GB | 350 GB | 15 | $99/mo | $84/mo |
| Enterprise | 3,000 GB | 700 GB | Unlimited | $199/mo | $169/mo |
- Customers are unlimited on every plan, including Free. Invite as many clients — and publish as many public galleries — as you like; your client roster never affects your bill or forces an upgrade.
- Storage is how much you keep stored; egress is how much gets downloaded.
- Team members is how many staff logins your workspace includes (the admin counts as one). Free includes 1 seat (the admin).
- Annual plans are billed yearly at a 15% discount versus monthly. Free has no billing cycle — it’s $0 either way.
The Free plan
Free is a permanent, limited plan — no card required, no expiration. Besides the storage, egress, and seat limits in the table above, Free also caps:
- 1 active shoot at a time.
- 250 photos per shoot.
- Photos only — video on any paid plan. Uploading video requires Starter or above.
- A “Powered by Tobren” badge on your galleries.
Everything else — unlimited customers, unlimited public galleries — is the same as every paid plan.
Capped, not metered
The Included storage and Included egress columns in the table above mean something different depending on the row. On a paid plan, that number is an allowance: pass it and nothing stops — the extra simply bills as overage (below). On the Free plan, the same kind of number is a hard wall: pass it and the affected action stops. Same figure, opposite consequence — which one applies depends only on which plan you’re on, not on the number itself:
- Uploads stop once you hit the 3 GB storage cap.
- Full-resolution downloads stop once you hit the 5 GB egress cap for the month. Previews and thumbnails keep serving either way, and a customer’s paid download is never blocked by the egress cap.
- Egress resets on the 1st of the month (UTC).
Hitting a Free cap isn’t an error — it’s the point where upgrading to a paid plan gets you more room (and video, and more seats). See Managing your subscription to upgrade any time.
Free plan vs. the 14-day trial
These are two different, deliberately distinct ways to start:
- 14-day trial — full Professional plan, no card required to start. It’s a real preview of a paid tier’s limits, and it ends after 14 days (see Account & billing FAQ).
- Free plan — the limited plan above, permanent, no expiration.
You can trial Professional and, if you’d rather not subscribe when it ends, drop down to the Free plan instead of losing access.
What counts toward limits
- Team members is a hard limit on every plan (including Free) — you’re blocked from adding past your plan’s cap until you upgrade or remove some.
- Storage and egress are metered on paid plans — going over doesn’t block you; the excess is billed as overage (below). On the Free plan they’re hard caps instead — see Capped, not metered above.
- Customers are not limited or metered at all, on any plan.
If you end up over a limit
A cap being lowered, or you downgrading to a smaller plan, can leave you over a hard limit (team seats, active shoots, photos per shoot, or — on Free — storage and egress). If that happens:
- You keep everything you already have — existing team members keep working and signing in, existing shoots and photos stay exactly as they are. Nothing is ever deleted or deactivated to enforce a limit.
- The only restriction is on adding more: you can’t invite another team member, start another shoot, or (on Free) upload past the cap until you’re back under it — by removing something, or by upgrading.
Overages
This section applies to paid plans — Free doesn’t accrue overage; it caps instead (see Capped, not metered above).
If you use more storage or egress than your plan includes, the extra is billed at:
| Resource | Rate |
|---|---|
| Storage | $0.06 / GB / month |
| Egress (downloads) | $0.25 / GB |
How it works:
- Storage is measured as a daily average over the billing period (the same way cloud providers bill), so briefly spiking and then deleting doesn’t cost a full month.
- Egress accrues as customers download files.
- Both feed a single running overage balance — there’s no separate storage vs. egress bill.
When you’re charged for overages — monthly vs. annual:
- Monthly plans: your overage is billed with your next monthly bill — combined into the same charge as your subscription. A given month’s overage shows up on the following anniversary-day renewal.
- Annual plans: overages don’t wait for your once-a-year renewal. They accrue each month and are billed monthly once the running balance reaches $5.00 (then it’s charged and reset to $0); a balance under $5 carries forward to the next month. Your plan fee is still billed once a year — only overages are collected monthly.
Either way, the sweep runs on your anniversary day of the month (the day-of-month you signed up).
Add-ons
- Custom domain — $3.99/month ($3.39/month annual), on the Professional plan and above. Enable it part-way through a period and you’re charged a prorated amount for the remainder of that period plus the next period’s add-on — combined into your next bill. See Custom domains.
Choosing a plan
- Pick the tier whose storage and egress fit how much you shoot and deliver — those, plus team seats, are what actually differ between plans. Your number of clients doesn’t come into it.
- Don’t over-buy storage/egress: overage exists so you only pay for what you actually exceed.
- Switching plans is easy and prorated — see Managing your subscription for how to upgrade, downgrade, or switch between monthly and annual billing.
